Post Number 148

Here is a link to a comic I just finished for the next issue of Rabid Rabbit, Rabid Rabbit Goes To Hell. I am linking to it, instead of posting it directly on the blog because it is about sex and I suppose some people are sensitive to that. Hope you like the comic!

Here is a drawing I did for this week's New Yorker, for a column on the movie Gunga Din, starring Sam Jaffe, Cary Grant and Douglass Fairbanks. The movie takes place in Colonial India, around 1880, and is about Gunga Din, an Indian water carrier for the British army, who wants to become an actual soldier. He is played by Sam Jaffe, a Jew born in New York City (like me!). Yes, brown face is involved; but the movie is fun, and there is a good mix of old-fashioned Hollywood battles scenes as well as slapsticky humor, with Cary Grant charm taking over during any scenes that movie history has determined less-than-adequate by today's standards.
The movie is showing at BAM on July 22, and you can read the review here.

Some old news that is new again:
A while back, I did the movie poster for The Pleasure of Being Robbed, from Red Bucket/IFC Films.

The DVD is out now, and my drawing made it's way onto the actual DVD itself. I haven't bought it (YET!) but I'm sure it looks awesome (OF COURSE). You can get a copy here.

Update: The director gave me a DVD and it IS awesome, pick one up!

This is a drawing I did for today's Op-Ed page in The New York Times, about the actual location of Edward Hopper's famous "Nighthawks" diner. The article is a lot of fun, like a neighborhood scavenger hunt, and was written by Jeremiah, with whom I've collaborated before. This time it was purely coincidence, small world! You can read the full article here.
